Haryana government has ranked Faridabad property and Gurgaon property as top cities for property tax on building and land in municipal corporation areas. An official spokesman has said that the Haryana Cabinet had given a nod to rationalize property tax on October 4. According to the methodology to calculate the tax, municipal corporation has been divided into two categories. Among this Faridabad and Gurgaon has been kept in A-1 category and Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Hisar and Yamunanagar are placed in A-2 category. In A-1 cities, the residents owning residential property up to 300 sq yard will have to pay Rs 1 per sq yard. The other category will have to pay Rs 4 per sq yard and Rs 10 per sq yard. Rates for commercial space of up to 1,000 sq yd would be Rs 12 per sq yd and for more than 1,000 sq yard; it would be Rs 15 per sq yard. Moreover, it is stated that a rebate of 30% shall be allowed to those residents who have clear their tax within 45 days of the notification. Moreover, the property tax will be exempted from payment for religious places, orphanage, central and state government office building.
